Tango Railway has released details of its gourmet fall and winter menu on the Kuro-matsu restaurant train.
Tango Railway is a private railway network that runs in the north of Kyoto and Hyogo prefectures. The Kuro-matsu restaurant train, which this year celebrates its 10th anniversary, follows a scenic route through the countryside and along the coastline while offering passengers a fine dining experience using local seasonal ingredients.
The train with its retro exterior and lavish woodlined interior was designed by Eiji Mitooka who also designed JR Kyushu’s Sweet Train, Kawasemi Yamasemi sightseeing train, and Kamome Shinkansen train.
The Kuro-matsu menu changes twice a year in the spring and fall and includes three courses. The following courses will be available from October 1st to March 31st next year.
The Morning Course can be enjoyed on a route that runs between Fukuchiyama and Amanohashidate. This is a full breakfast course featuring Tamba black soybeans. This includes a quiche of black beans and duck, a black bean and mushroom potage, and a tiramisu made with black bean coffee and local sake for dessert.
The Lunch Course can be enjoyed between Amanohashidate and Nishimaizuru. This course includes steamed snow crab terrine, sweet potato buns, smoked salmon pate, and a roast duck quiche.
The Local Delicacy Course can also be enjoyed between Amanohashidate and Nishimaizuru. This course includes grilled and boiled crab, sashimi, deep-fried Kumihama oysters, pickled cream cheese, and Tango barazushi rolls — all served with local sake!
The Kuro-matsu runs only on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays and must be booked in advance. For full details or to make a reservation, please see the official English language webpage.
