Tokyu Railways has launched a “Green Lifestyle Train” to build excitement for GREEN×EXPO 2027, an international garden exposition that will be held in Yokohama next year. Fittingly, the exterior of the train is decorated with bright images of green trees and blue skies, which are meant to foster a sense of anticipation both for the exposition itself — and for a greener future more in harmony with nature.
Tokyu Green Lifestyle Train
The Expo will start on March 19th next year, but two Green Lifestyle trains are already running. One Green Lifestyle Train is now running on the Toyoko Line and Tokyu Shin-Yokohama Line, while another train is running on the Den-en-toshi Line. A third train is due to start running on the Meguro Line and Tokyu Shin-Yokohama Line on August 3rd. All of these trains will continue to run until September 26th, next year when the Expo is scheduled to close.

GREENxEXPO 2027 is a major international horticultural and agricultural exposition that aims to promote the creation of a happier and more sustainable society that can coexist with nature while suggesting concrete actions to combat climate change and biodiversity loss. The Expo will be held on a 100-hectare site in Kamiseya in the suburbs of Yokohama, and will have a variety of pavilions and facilities sponsored by both public and private organizations. The Green Lifestyle Train is intended to increase awareness of these exhibiting facilities.

The Tokyu Group will also have a pavilion at the EXPO, and so the Green Lifestyle Train’s interior displays will have information about this pavilion as well as information on the exhibits of other sponsoring organizations and companies.
The Miraidane mascot
In addition to green trees and blue skies, the exterior of the train also features a new mascot character, called “Miraidane,” which is shaped like the Tokyu Group Pavilion. The mascot’s name, “Miraidane” is a play on words meaning both “It’s the future, right?” and “seeds of the future.”

During the Expo’s exhibition period shuttle buses will run to the exposition venue from Minami-Machida Grandberry Park Station on the Den-en-toshi Line. Other access points with shuttle bus services will be Tokaichiba Station on the JR Yokohama Line, Mitsukyo Station on the Sotetsu Main Line, and Seya Station, which is also on the Sotetsu Main Line.
