Marriott International has announced that it is collaborating with JR Central to open a new Courtyard by Marriott hotel this year which will be just a few steps away from Kyoto Station.
Courtyard by Marriott Kyoto Station
Called “Courtyard by Marriott Kyoto Station,” this will be the ninth Courtyard brand hotel in Japan and the second in Kyoto, following Courtyard by Marriott Kyoto Shijo Karasuma, which opened last year. The hotel brand, which is mainly aimed at international business travelers, now has 1,285 hotels in 60 different countries and territories.
Hotel Restaurant
Located 3 minutes’ walk from Kyoto Station, the new hotel will have 270 rooms, including suites, and will feature an all-day dining restaurant, as well as a cafe and a bar. Hotel guests will also have access to the hotel’s state-of-the-art fitness center.

The hotel interior will be designed around a “Collection of Kyoto Stories” concept, which will honor Kyoto’s history, linking tales of the past with new tales of the modern city. Guest rooms will be decorated with motifs from traditional Kyoto townhouses, and walls will feature depictions of the mountains that encircle the city. The entrance lobby area will be designed as a library-like space featuring crafts, art, and books.

Kyoto is generally considered the center of Japanese culture and is a major tourist destination visited by tens of millions of people every year. The new hotel’s location by the city’s main station gives it easy access to local transportation and to the city’s main tourist attractions.

Some popular attractions close to the station area are Kyoto Tower, Kyoto Railway Museum, Higashi Honganji Temple, the Shosei-en Garden, and Toji Temple — a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Kyoto Station is also a key transportation hub and a major gateway for travelers coming from cities like Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya. On top of that the station building is home to a multi-purpose commercial complex that combines a variety of shopping, dining, and lifestyle facilities.
Set in a location that is perfect for both leisure and business travelers the new hotel is scheduled to open this autumn.
