Nagoya Railroad (also known as Meitetsu) has released details of a major redevelopment of the Meitetsu Nagoya Station area covering 520,000 square meters, with construction due to begin in 2027.

New mixed-use skyscrapers planned for Meitetsu Nagoya Station
At the heart of the plans is the redevelopment of Meitetsu Nagoya Station, which will increase the number of its tracks from the current two to four. The two new tracks will increase the station’s capacity and also enable the station to have dedicated platforms for trains bound for Chubu Centrair Airport.

In 2026, demolition will begin of six existing buildings in the Nagoya Station area, which will include Meitetsu Department Store, Meitetsu Grand Hotel and Meitetsu Bus Terminal.
These will be replaced by two new interconnected mixed-use skyscrapers: a south tower which will include a luxury hotel, offices, and a bus terminal; and a north tower which will include a shopping center and offices.

These two buildings will be connected by pedestrian walkways at three levels, and there are also plans for a rooftop plaza, an outdoor terrace, green promenades and comfortable seating areas throughout.

The hotel in the south building will open as Andaz Nagoya, a brand affiliated with Hyatt Hotels Corporation. It will feature a ground-floor entrance leading to 150 guest rooms and suites located on the 25th to 29th floors. Amenities will include a rooftop bar, multiple restaurants and lounges, extensive meeting and event spaces, a fitness center, an indoor pool, and a spa.
The redevelopment will take place in two phases. The first phase of construction will include the hotel, the bus terminal and some shopping areas and will be completed in 2033. The second phase of construction will be completed in the early 2040s.
