A new upscale hotel in Kyoto has added a train-themed “Railway Room” which is sure to delight railway enthusiasts. The Royal Park Hotel Kyoto Umekoji, which opened on March 12th this year, overlooks Umekoji Park and is just a 4-minute walk from Kyoto Railway Museum, Japan’s biggest railway museum.

The Railway Room’s unique interior decor includes a large photo panel over the bed showing the N700 and 500 series Shinkansen trains and the iconic Doctor Yellow high-speed test train. The bedding is decorated with images of trains, and there are shinkansen-shaped body pillows.

The room also has several model trains on display and the train driving simulation game “Densha de Go!! Plug and Play” is available to play with a realistic two-handle Master Controller which allows you to drive on four different routes. Guests can also take part in a quiz by playing an AR app with the chance of winning some more train-themed goodies.

Currently, the Royal Park Hotel Kyoto Umekoji are offering a special plan which includes a stay in either the Superior Twin or Corner Deluxe Twin Railway Rooms, admission tickets to the Kyoto Railway Museum, and a buffet breakfast with the option of a shinkansen-themed breakfast plate for kids.

The Royal Park Hotel Kyoto Umekoji, is the third Royal Park Hotel in the Kyoto area, and is in a highly convenient location being just 3 minutes on foot from Umekoji Kyoto-Nishi Station on the JR Sagano Line. This station is just 2 minutes from Kyoto Station and 14 minutes from the scenic Saga-Arashiyama district.
